NC HIEA Data Disclosures to Approved Third Parties

eHealth Exchange Partners

The N.C. Health Information Exchange Authority signed the eHealth Exchange Data Use and Reciprocal Support Agreement in the spring of 2017.

We are currently connected to the following eHealth Exchange participants:

  • Coastal Connect HIE (Wilmington, NC) *
  • eTHIN (East Tennessee) *
  • GaHIN (Georgia's state-designated HIE) *
  • MedVirginia (Richmond, VA) *
  • SCHIEx (South Carolina) *
  • VA HIE (Veterans Health Administration) and DMIX (Dept. of Defense) joint HIE **
  • Atrium Health CareConnect HIE (Charlotte, NC) **
  • OCHIN (Portland, OR) **
  • PULSE (Patient Unified Lookup System for Emergencies) from Ai **
  • Carolina Health Network **

Live, In-Production Data Connections with NC HealthConnex

NC HIEA is currently exchanging data with the following entities for the identified programs:

  • N.C. Division of Public Health, North Carolina Immunization Registry (this connection is currently live for UNC Epic and in progress for multiple other EHRs)
  • N.C. Division of Public Health, Electronic Lab Reporting (this connection is active for UNC Health Care and Aegis Science Corporation)
  • N.C. Division of Public Health for the NC Diabetes Specialized Public Health Registry
  • The Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC), Patient Centered Data Home Network (PCDH)
  • N.C. Division of Public Health, Epidemiology Section, Communicable Disease Branch (pursuant to Session Law 2020-80, efforts are underway to build active connections in response to the COVID-19 pandemic)

The NC HIEA has entered into a memorandum of agreement with DHHS to allow for the exchange of data between NC HealthConnex and for the identified programs in these divisions:
