The Advisory Board provides consultation to N.C. Health Information Exchange Authority on the advancement and operation of NC HealthConnex, the state-designated health information exchange. The board has eight members appointed by the N.C. General Assembly, in addition to four ex-officio members.

Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, UNC Health

Brent Lamm serves as senior vice president and chief information officer for the UNC Health System. In this role, he has responsibility for all information technology and clinical engineering solutions and services for the health system. Lamm also serves as the system's chief analytics officer, leading the organization's enterprise analytics and data sciences teams and services.

Prior to joining UNC in 2009, Lamm served for more than 10 years in various technical leadership, IT architecture and software development roles in IBM's Global Services and Software Group divisions. During this period, he worked extensively with clients in various industries, including financial services, health care, manufacturing and telecommunications.

Lamm holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University and a Master of Business Administration from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Vice President of Analytics, Lumeris 

Ryan Craig is currently the vice president of analytics at Lumeris, where he focuses on providing value-based care solutions for health systems across the United States. In this role, he oversees the development of Lumeris' analytics platform, which generates actionable insights for providers and clinical leaders to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care.

With over 25 years of experience in information technology, data warehousing, analytics and data management, Craig has dedicated the last 15 years to leading analytics programs in the health care industry. Before joining Lumeris, he held a senior leadership position in Duke Health's Analytics Center of Excellence, where he played a crucial role in improving access to clinical data for research and health system operations.

Craig's educational background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Management in Clinical Informatics from Duke University School of Medicine.

President, Friends of Wake GAL

Laura Gruebel is a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Physical Therapy. She has practiced in acute, rehab, skilled, assisted living, home health and private settings. In 2017, she was sworn in as a guardian ad litem in Wake County and currently serves as the president of the nonprofit Friends of Wake GAL, serving children in Wake County foster care.

Laura has been married over 30 years to her husband who is a practicing anesthesiologist. They have 3 children.

Internal Medicine & Pediatrics, Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, Inc.

John Meier MD, MBA, MSQM, CPE is a practicing internist and pediatrician in the Raleigh area. He currently serves as the president-elect and member of the board of directors of the North Carolina Medical Society. Dr. Meier also serves on the board of Carolina Complete Health and Key Physicians and as the chairperson of the North Carolina Medical Care Commission.

In 2023, Dr. Meier completed a master’s degree in quantitative management with a focus on health analytics at Duke University. He has been part of several health care-related data and analytics companies including Forecast Health, HealthScape Data and Survey Vitals.  He was a member of the founding board of WakeMed Key Community Health, an accountable care and Medicare Shared Savings Program.  He has a special interest in data, analytics and machine learning algorithms and their current and future impact on health care delivery and health care policy. 

Dr. Meier has an undergraduate degree from Princeton University and an MBA and medical degree from the University of Chicago. He completed his internal medicine and pediatrics residency at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and served as a chief resident at WakeMed Hospital. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Physicians, American College of Physician Executives and Healthcare Financial Management Association. Prior to returning to medical school later in life, Dr. Meier had several roles in corporate America including manufacturing operations and as a CFO/COO doing a turnaround for a private equity firm.

Dr. Meier lives in Raleigh with his wife and has four active boys. He is also the Cub Master for Pack 325.

Manager of Interoperability and Clinical Data Exchange, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina

Michael Robinson, a native North Carolinian, is a seasoned IT professional with extensive experience in the health care industry, particularly in the realm of health information systems.  His current role is to execute the Blue Cross NC interoperability and clinical data exchange platform strategy. The aim is to improve the health journey of North Carolinians through accurate and timely insights, coupled with quality data sourced from an enhanced health care data eco-system.

Prior to joining Blue Cross NC in 2020, Michael spent the previous 15 years working with hospital networks improving their electronic health record (EHR) systems via automation steered by analytics. His recent Blue Cross NC payer experience, combined with a history in working with large health systems, contributes to his balanced approach for clinical data exchange, applying analytic insights while meeting regulatory compliance.

Robinson employs a collaborative “test and learn” approach with partners in finding paths to successful solutions. Learning this approach early in his career as a technology integrator, Michael worked within several industries including finance, banking, insurance, transportation, manufacturing. His roles spanned from a practice leader at Computer Associates, a CTO founder of a venture-backed cloud application company and principal consultant.

Robinson served in the United States Air Force Reserves, attended North Carolina State University and continues to learn through industry partnerships, workgroups, standards organizations and professional organizations. 

Vice President, IS Applications, ECU Health

Tanya Thompson is a CHIME CHCIO professional with over 27 years of healthcare and technology management experience. She is currently the vice president of IS applications at ECU Health, a regional health system affiliated with East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine.

In this role, she leads the development and execution of IT strategies that align with the health system’s vision and goals. She oversees the implementation and support of various clinical and business applications, including Epic EHR, Peoplesoft FSCM and HCM and enterprise ancillary systems. Thompson has successfully managed large-scale transformational initiatives in clinical and revenue cycle, consolidating EHR instances and enabling telehealth and regional COVID-19 testing and vaccination services in eastern North Carolina.

Thompson holds a Master of Management in Clinical Informatics from Duke University School of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Southeastern Louisiana University. She is also certified as a Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) and a Medical Technologist (ASCP). She is an active member of several professional associations, such as HIMSS, CHIME, and NCHIMSS. Her passion is to deliver innovative healthcare IT solutions that improve patient care, operational efficiency and organizational performance.

Senior Database Administrator, Crossnore Communities

Ryan Wilkins is the senior database administrator at Crossnore Communities for Children and a senior consultant for Cansler Collaborative Resources. He has worked with behavioral health agencies for two decades in numerous capacities, ranging from direct care to agency consulting. Ryan previously worked as a quality improvement consultant with Northwest AHEC of the Wake Forest School of Medicine, part of the North Carolina AHEC program.

Ryan studied computer science at North Carolina Central University and business administration at Lenoir Rhyne University. He has been immensely involved in health IT and clinical cinformatics. This experience, in addition to his educational knowledge, has assisted Ryan with providing quality expertise to numerous agencies across the region.  Ryan continues to provide value in the healthcare industry through his current roles.
