On Friday, September 18, 2015, Governor Pat McCrory signed the state budget, which removes the North Carolina Health Information Exchange (NCHIE) from the current Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) / North Carolina Community Cares Networks (N3CN) structure and creates a new statewide HIE under State control.  Some key points:

  • There are no immediate changes. – It’s important to note that it’s business as usual in the near term.  Please continue to provide outstanding service to your customers and the North Carolinians you serve.
  • A transition team has been assembled. – A team is in the initial planning phase of this transition.  The objective is to have a thoughtful, sequenced approach to this work.
  • We will keep you updated. – We want this to be a collaborative and transparent process, and are committed to providing you with updates as things develop and information becomes available.

We know you have a lot of questions, but it’s important to remember that we are very early in the transition process.  That said, we want to thank you in advance for your support and cooperation as we move forward with this transition.  Our goal is to build on the accomplishments and capabilities of the existing NCHIE, and ensure we best serve the needs of the State and its providers.
